Patients will be monitored in the most personal way imaginable, from the inside-out. Microchips on pills to enforce obedience to the medical regime will be used in the UK by the end of the year.

The so-called “failure” of patients to take their medicine is cited as the reason for this loss of privacy. People are conceptualized as pathetic children unable to decide how their own bodies should be managed. No possibility of a person’s right to choose not to take a prescribed pharmaceutical drug is considered.

The product, named Helius® (also known as the Raisin Personal Monitor), is made by Proteus Biomedical, a California corporation. A contract signed with Lloyd’s Pharmacies in the UK will give them exclusive rights to sell the product for three years. Initially, Helius will be sold to patients, families, and caregivers. However, the NHS is looking into using it.

The Marketing of Helius

They’re trotting out a World Health Organization study that shows at least half of all patients don’t take their medications according to instructions. The implication is that it’s laziness or some sort of personal failing on their part. The fact that many people stop taking drugs because of adverse effects and lack of efficacy isn’t even considered.

Lloyd’s Pharmacy’s Healthcare Services Director, Steve Gray, reiterates the medical system’s central belief, that health is found in pharmaceutical drugs:

There is a huge problem with medicines not being taken correctly. Anyone taking several medications knows how easy it can be to lose track of whether or not you’ve taken the correct tablets that day. Add to that complex health issues and families caring for loved ones who may not live with them and you can appreciate the benefits of an information service that helps patients get the most from their treatments and for families to help them remain well.

In other words, the important thing isn’t to help people regain their health. The important thing is to assure that they take every single drug prescribed. And Helius is just the product to see to it.

Of course, the chilling effect on privacy and freedom has no place in the official dialog. Naturally, though, Proteus Biomedical, spins the story to give the impression that it’s private and under control of the patient.

This is a Proteus Biomedical rep telling about how it works. He tells you it’s “inherently private” … and then goes on to tell how the information is sent out over the internet!

“The cell phone knows how social you are.” This chilling quote is from Erika Karplus, Vice President of Market Development for Proteus Biomedical. And she says it like it’s a good thing!

Novartis, the pharmaceutical giant, is working with Proteus to develop more applications. Specific interests being investigated are organ transplants, diabetes, tuberculosis, and mental health. This latter should send chills down the spine of anyone who has been given a mental health diagnosis. How long will it be before people are forced into taking the devastating drugs routinely given to people given diagnoses of depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or any other mental pseudo-illness?

Potential Product Risks

The chips utilize bluetooth technology, and risks associated with it aren’t factored in. It’s linked to brain cancer when used with headsets. Obviously, when the device is swallowed and runs through your digestive system, it’s even more invasive and there’s no way to protect yourself against it—other than by refusing to swallow.

There’s no indication that the manufacturer or anyone else is looking into the potential of bluetooth radiation risks.

Proteus Biomedical uses the facile explanation that there is no danger from the materials in Helius. They say it’s made from food ingredients, but don’t tell us what they are. There are no studies available to show evidence of safety. Yet, we’re expected to simply believe that there’s no risk.

FDA’s Rubber Stamp

One would think that something as invasive as Helius would receive special attention. After all, it utilizes a known cancer-inducing technology in an invasive manner never before seen. It involves the ingestion, digestion, and absorption of the device. However, the FDA is treating it as a known safe product. They state in their letter allowing its sale that:

… the device is substantially equivalent (for the indications for use stated in the enclosre) to legally marketed predicate devices marketed in interstate commerce prior to May 28, 1976, the enactment date of the Medical Device Amendments, or to devices that have been reclassified in accordance iwth the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (Act) that do not require approval of a premarket approval application.

The FDA is just letting this product through without any testing whatsoever!

The Loss of Privacy and Personal Rights

Helius is yet another invasion into personal rights, coupled with an utter lack of concern for people’s health—though sold in typical doublespeak manner as being beneficial.

The FDA approved this incredibly invasive product that uses known-dangerous technology and that must be metabolized by who-knows-what body systems without even asking for studies!

The masses are treated as nothing but sinks for products and sources of profits by Big Pharma and their wholly-owned government agencies.

And mainstream media goes along with it all, since it’s no longer the people’s watchdog, but has been gobbled up by the very agencies, multinational corporations, they should be policing.

The day is rapidly arriving when people will be ordered to swallow pills to track every aspect of their lives, even down to how often they have bowel movements. If you think that’s alarmist, just ask the people who are now forced to take psychotropic medications.
