Julian Assange

John Pilger is originally from Australia. It’s Australia’s treatment of the aboriginal people that started him on his life of reporting what no one else would touch. He speaks with pride of his fellow Australian, Julian Assange:

I can’t think of any that have been so unusually brave as Julian. I mean brave in everything that he has had to go through … brave in standing up to a superpower … brave in starting a project that he knew would get him into trouble, the best kind of trouble, the kind of trouble that informs people that respect their right to know about those who govern and those who make war in their name. So when he started Wikileaks, he knew that it was going to be a rocky road.

Pilger expresses concern for what will become of Assange if he’s ultimately extradited to America. It would be a travesty for someone who has served the world with, as Pilger states, “such distinction and bravery”.
