These were all local new channels. They buy the story from wire services like Associated Press so they don’t have to write their own stories. AP sells the same story to networks and newspapers around the world and the anchors just read them. So I say lazy yes, conspiracy no.

A conspiracy isn’t required. The effect is the same. There is precious little journalism – mostly duplication of the same story over and over everywhere.

I agree. I was questioning the assertion of the post that this represents deliberate control.

Where does the post make that claim? It refers to news as being “controlled and coordinated”. It says nothing about how it’s done.

It doesn’t require a conspiracy, as in people getting together and developing a plan, for control & coordination to occur. Once the media has been bought out so that there are very few owners left – as is now the case – then there’s no need to imagine a conspiracy.

But then, there’s little difference between the effects of a conspiracy and the situation that now exists.

This doesn’t mean that mainstream media is “controlled”. Basically, all local TV stations get most of their stories over the “API wire” news service. Pretty much all they do is copy and paste it straight into their tele-prompters as it’s written by the original source at API, which I believe stands for Associated Press International, forgive me if I’m wrong, it’s been awhile. That’s not being told what to say on the air, it’s just the main way that local stations get any news they report on that isn’t “local” in origin.

Most “local” TV stations are anything but that. They’ve been bought out. As a result, they show the news that their owners want shown – meaning the stock stuff from newswires and press releases. Truly local stations used to produce real news, but those days largely disappeared as they were bought out by the big corporations.

API stands for Agence Presse Internationale.  AP stands for Associate Press.
