Andrew Wakefield Speaks to Private US Physicians on the Smear Campaign Against Him
Andrew Wakefield addresses the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, explaining how the Urabe strain of mumps vaccine was used in vaccines and intentionally tested in a manner that avoided showing the known risk of meningitis. He clearly discusses how the UK government chose to use that vaccine because it was far cheaper and agreed to indemnify SmithKline Beecham for any harm done by it. That left the UK at risk to pay for the care of children who had contracted autism.
The reason for stopping Wakefield’s research was defined clearly by Professor Zuckerman, of the World Health Organization, at that time Dean of the Medical School where Wakefield worked and later with the World Health Organization, who wrote, “Clearly this could lead to a case against the government for damages.” His concern was that Dr. Wakefield’s research into the association between the MMR vaccine and autism could cost the government an enormous amount of money.
Dr. Wakefield’s discussion is fascinating and revealing.
Dr. Wakefield’s discussion clearly exposes Deer’s misrepresentation of his work. It is compelling. (I would also like to direct readers to the fact that Deer’s misrepresentations could be seen with analysis of only what Deer himself wrote.)
He explains why the attacks against him will fail:
- 89% of parents put vaccine research as their number 1 medical research priority.
- Polls say over 50% of parents believe vaccines cause autism.
- You can only sustain a falsehood for so long. Studies show that 74% support the association between heavy metal intoxication and autism.
- So many children are affected.
Most heartening is that this group of doctors received him very warmly. It’s the single most heartening thing I’ve seen in this disaster.
